Rome’s first old Rione (neighbourhood), the largest and most inhabited. Rival to Trastevere, it was another working class neighbourhood. It’s characteristic daily activities endures now in artsy bookstore/cafes, vintage clothing shops, organic and local produce, galleries where you can explore hand-made garments, leather artifacts, contemporary curiosites and extraordinary chocolates. Eccentricity and eclecticism interwine daily life – it is a wide and varied area but still Italian or as they would say Roman, being from Rome.

“All Roads Lead to Rome" and this is one of those surviving roads in all its storied and cobbled glory. Originally built in 312 BC, the road to this day still lays claim to the longest stretch of straight road in Europe.
Part of the road was used for the men's marathon in the 1960 Rome Olympics won by Ethiopia's Abebe Bikila. Many sites of interest lie along the road like mausoleums, a circus, funerary monuments and memories of its ancient and modern past.
